A good variety of species were on the bite, Trag Jew, Moses Perch, Hussar, Snapper including one to 7-8kg mark well done mate, Bonito, Mc Tuna just to name a few we found. Weather permitting it will be worth having a look on the 18 -24 fathom reefs, the 36 have also produced good catches of Snapper, Pearl Perch, AJ, Samson, Yellow Tail Kingies & Tusk Fish, just watch out for those Leather Jackets they will eat everything including your sinker.
Reports of consistent catches of Flathead again this week have been good to hear, some spots to try are Crab Island Middle Banks, Wave Break Island, The Gold Coast Seaway, Brown Island, Rat Island, The Aldershots, Never Fail Islands, Tipplers Passage, Dux, Curtis, Bedrooms, Coomera River, Green Bank, Canaipa Passage and the Logan River.
During the winter when the water temp is down a bit I recommend to troll hard body lures to find where the Flathead are laying, once you find a fish work the area as they are generally not alone. You can also anchor or use you electric motor to hold position and then change to throwing plastics for good results, use a 1/4 -3/8 jig head with a plastic around 3-4 inch will work fine. If you like bait drifting White Pilchards, WA Pilchards, Prawns & Yabbies using a 4-5 ball sinker will also produce good numbers of fish.
We have had lucky houseboat crews anchored up along Short Island this week catch some top quality Bream ranging up to 43cm. Other good spots around the Pin are Tiger Mullet Channel, Whalleys Gutter, Crusoe Island, Squire Island, Tiger Mullet Channel, Cobby Passage, Jacobs Well, and the Logan River. Further south try Gold Coast Seaway Walls, Wave Break Island, Paradise Point, Coomera River, Pimpama River, Tipplers Passage & Dux. Best baits have been Prawns, White Pilchards, Mullet Fillet, Fisho, Squid and Yabbies.
Tailor and Jew Fish have been showing up on the last two hours of the run in and the first hour of the run out tide in the Pin Bar entrance, Kalinga Bank round Crusoe Island, Gold Coast Seaway and Main Broadwater channel near Currigee.
We did see some quality winter Mud Crabs and some nice Sand Crabs caught this week.
At the time of writing my report it looks like we have a nice weekend on the way. Winds will be moderate 10 to 15 knots from the South on both Saturday & Sunday you might just have to find a spot out of the breeze to fish. The new moon is Saturday night, just plan your trip around a tide change for best results.
If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to email@example.com
Good luck with the Fishing. Brett
