Bream, Moses Perch, Whiting, Snapper Being Caught Around Coomera

As another nice week comes to an end on the Gold Coast let’s have a look at how the fishing was.

We’ve had some nice weather this week to venture offshore and chase some Spotty Mackerel, Fraser sent us a photo on a nice Spotty he caught at Palm Beach Reef. Some other good spots have been Mermaid Reef, The Gravel Patch and the local 24 and 18 fathom reefs. Trolling dead WA pilchards works well to cover ground, another popular method is to anchor up and burley the fish in and use pilchard tails on light wire or cast metal slugs. A few nice Spanish have also started to show up this week. Bottom fishing is also producing a few Snapper, Trag Jew, Tusk Fish, Cobia and the odd Moses Perch, if the current is running just use a heavier sinker.

We have seen some good catches of Mud Crabs this week, a bit more rain will see consistent catches as the month progresses. Jacobs Well, Cabbage Tree Point, Cobby Passage, Tiger Mullet Channel, the Neverfail Islands and the Coomera River have been the best spots. Fresh bait is the key, Whole Mullet, Fish or chicken frames are a favourite. Don’t forget to have your Crab pot and float clearly marked or Fisheries will confiscate your gear. Crab ID kits are available from $3.90 for 5 tags.

Our customers have been catching a good mixed bag of Bream, Whiting and Flathead throughout Tipplers Passage, Dux, Tiger Mullet Channel, Canaipa Passage, Jacobs Well, Coomera River and Pimpama River. Justin caught and released a monster 75cm Flathead in the Broadwater this week on a soft plastic. Good baits to try are Prawns, Worms, Yabbies, White Pilchards and Mullet Fillet cut into strip baits.

At the time of writing my report it looks like we will have a strong S/SE wind change moving in Friday and will stay with us until early next week, offshore will be off limits but the Broadwater and Pin area will have some good protected spots to try.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au Good luck with the Fishing.
