Consistent winter fishing on Gold Coast

As another consistent winter’s week of fishing on the Gold Coast comes to an end let’s have a look at some of the best spots to try.
We have had a few lucky customers catch some nice Jewfish over the weekend in the Coomera River, fish size in range from smaller fish 60cm up to some larger models reaching 83cm which are a nice fish for the river.

Soft plastics in the 3 to 5 inch range and ½ ounce vibes have been producing regular bites.

The deeper water between Sanctuary Cove and Santa Barbara holds some good bait schools to work the lures.

Also the North arm of the river around Bullock Head and Jewel creek is worth a go, if the lures are a bit quite try a live bait. Other spots to try are Marks Rocks in the Logan, Kalinga Bank at the Pin and the Gold Coast Seaway for a few larger Jewfish.
Plenty of Flathead are still being caught this week, Crab Island, Wave Break Island, Brown Island, Rat Island, Tipplers Passage, The Never fail Islands, Jacobs Well and Canaipa Passage have all fished well.

The average size of fish is from legal to 55cm mark making them great fun for the kids to target, they put up a great fight on light gear. We have seen some larger fish for this time of year in the high 80cm also showing up.
Customers report good numbers of Bream around the Jumpinpin area, some crews have made the size limit minimum 30cm when targeting a feed.

With such large numbers of fish around it gives the smaller but legal 25cm fish a change to breed for the future seasons.

The best spots have been Crusoe Island, Tiger Mullet Channel, Canaipa Passage, Eden Island, Short Island and Whalleys Gutter.

In the southern end of the coast land based spots like Marine Parade Labrador has been fishing well at night, also try Lands End Biggera Waters and Paradise Point. Wave Break Island and Seaway has also been fishing well.

Schools of Tailor and Trevally have been showing up in the Pin Bar and Gold Coast Seaway chasing bait schools, I have even had reports of some good sized Yellow Tail Kingfish taking surface lures in the seaway aimed at Tailor.

Just keep your eyes peeled for any surface action whether it is splashes on the surface of birds working overhead.
At the time of writing my report it looks like we might see a shower or two until Saturday and lighter SE winds.

Sunday will see sunshine but the NW winds will be on the increase at least until Wednesday.
If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to
Good luck with the Fishing.
