Coomera bream biting

With Brett still on annual leave, it’s up to his apprentice again this week to let you all know how the fishing is going, so here we go…Well the Westerly winds finally blew up on Wednesday and Thursday and didn’t the temperature drop yesterday morning letting us know Winter is well and truly here.   We are expecting the winds to start coming from the South SE tending to ESE during the week-end and start of this week and dropping right off on Wednesday. We will also have a bit of rain hanging around with a chance of a shower or two every day this week.

We have been lucky to have some of our regular crews out this past week chasing a feed.  The “ten worm club” out on two of our houseboats this week have caught a great haul of crabs. (see photo below)

With the cooler westerly winds the night time bite will provided the best quality fish, but we have had reports of  plenty of nice Bream being caught during the day.  Word is good catches of Bream have been caught in Tiger Mullet Channel, around Kangaroo Island, Short Island Huts, Perrys Hole, Carusoe Island, Tipplers Passage and Wave Break Island.  I would recommend using Mullet Fillet, Fishos, Mullet Gut, Prawns, White Pillys or Yabbies.

Brett will always say it’s a good idea to use burley.  This will attract and then keep the school of fish feeding around your boat,  pellets or small cubes of WA pillys work well,  just remember small amounts regularly as you don’t want to fill them up and stop the bite. Keeping the gear light is also recommended by Brett, 9lb main line is more than enough together with 8lb trace will produce more fish than heavier tackle.

I hope you have a good week fishing, until next time, regards Mike.

Being up to date with the rules and regulations when fishing in Queensland is very important if you are looking at keeping a feed of fish and crabs. We do recommend you take the time to be well informed on how big a fish should be, bag limits or what crabs you are legally allowed to keep before you go fishing. Follow the link to Queensland Fisheries website to view current regulations http://www.daff.qld.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/rules-regulations or you can also pick up a rule book from us at Coomera Bait & Tackle free of charge.
