Coomera crabs still chewing

After another wet weekend on the Gold Coast it was good to see the Sunshine during the week with lighter wind conditions making it nice to spend some time on the water chasing a fish or two.

I fished the Pirtek Fishing Challenge with my family last Sunday, it’s a great day out with over 8000 anglers taking part Australia wide and all the monies raised go to men’s cancer research. We managed to dodge the rain most of the day, the river was a bit dirty from the downpour on Saturday.
The kids and my wife managed to catch and release 20 whiting and a lot of other species like Bream, Tarwine, Flathead and the odd stingray, the results are available on the Pirtek Challenge website from Saturday 28/3/15.

Our customers have been catching some quality Mud Crabs this week, I’ve included a picture of Eric with his catch.
The Coomera River has been crabbing well, also try the Pimpama River, Logan River, Cobby Passage, Tabby Tabby, Tiger Mullet Channel, Jacobs Well and the Never Fail Islands. Whole mullet or fresh fish frames are great bait.
A quality bait bag like the Wilson wire large will stop the little fish from eating the bait.
Remember to have your crab pots correctly marked with ID tag attached to the pot and corresponding details on the float.

The water quality in the Broadwater closer to the Seaway is good, we have had reports of Bream, Trevally and Jewfish being caught in the Seaway along the North Wall and Pipeline.
The odd Tailor has been showing up with the clean water, try trolling a few hard bodies near the Seaway mouth and Currigee Channel on the incoming tide.
Similar conditions around the Jumpinpin Bar area with some nice water on the incoming tide producing a few Tailor and some nice Jewfish up to 20kg showing up along Kalinga Bank.

For a feed of Bream, Whiting and Flathead the Sandbanks and channels around Wavebreak island have been fishing well, also try Crab Island, Coomera River, The Never Fails, Curtis Anchorage, North Bedrooms, Tiger Mullet Channel, Jacobs Well around the shoals, Logan River and Canaipa Passage.
Yabbies are great all round bait, the kids will have fun pumping them.
I’d also recommend Worms, Prawns, White Pilchards and Mullet Fillet to catch a feed.

At the time of writing the report the weekend is looking ok with moderate S/SE on Saturday tending light Easterly on Sunday and some sunshine on the way with just a chance of a shower.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to
Good luck with the Fishing. Brett
