The weather has been perfect for hitting the water and chasing a feed on the Gold Coast this week; let’s see what’s been happening.
For those chasing a Spanish Mackerel the reports have been a bit hit and miss this week, everyone was keen to get out after the low moved through late February but the fish and bait are not as thick anymore, a few nice fish were caught on the 18 & 24 Fathom reef east of the Seaway you will just need to cover some ground until you find the bait.
A few extra large Yellow Fin Tuna have been taking bill fish lures on the wider grounds.
The water quality is slowly on the improve in the Broadwater and Jumpinpin area, the better quality water and bait seems to be more prevalent on the incoming tide closer to the Southport Seaway and Pin Bar entrances.
Good bait schools of Herring are moving through along with schools of Trevally, Squire, Jew Fish and a few Tailor chasing a feed.
A few nice squire have been caught along the North Bedrooms and around Crusoe Island and in Tiger Mullet Channel, most fish are undersized with the odd legal just over 35cm showing up, most have been caught by those targeting Bream.
I have also heard reports of some big Jew Fish over 20kg mark being caught around the Jumpinpin Bar mouth and Kalinga Bank, live pike, mullet, tailor or herring will work best.
We have had reports of some nice Whiting and Flathead being caught in the Coomera River, Tippers Passage, Wavebreak Island, Marine Stadium, Jacobs Well, Gold Bank, North Bedrooms, Canaipa Passage and the Logan River.
Good catches of Mud Crabs have been landed this week around the Gold Coast, Tipplers Passage, The Never Fail Islands, Brown Island, Coomera River, Jacobs Well, Cabbage Tree Point, Eden Island, Canaipa Passage and the Logan River all producing quality Crabs.
Mullet or Fish frames will do the job.
The South Easterly winds are tipped to ease by Saturday with light N/NE winds and plenty of Sunshine on the cards for next week.
If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au
Good luck with the Fishing.
