Coomera Houseboats customers get amongst the fish

It’s been a good week here on the Gold Coast for School Holidays, with lighter winds early in the week and warm sunny days on the water.  Let’s see how our customers have been going.

Our customers have been getting amongst some top Whiting this week managing to land a great feed.  Some good spots are the North or South Arm of the Coomera River, Crab Island, Currigee,  Wave Break Island, Marine Stadium, Jacobs Well, Bedrooms, Tiger Mullet Channel, Green Bank, Canaipa Passage, North Bedrooms and The Never Fails Islands.  Whiting like a good flow in the tide to bite so the full moon this week will get them on the chew.  Yabbies and Worms are great bait.  I recommend using a small size 6 baitholder hook, a long 6lb fluro carbon leader matched with a size 3 or 4 ball sinker to help keep your bait in the bite zone.  Fish the tops of the sandbanks on the rising tide and the edges and drop offs on the run out.  Fishing at night can produce better numbers of quality fish.

Reports of some nice Mud Crabs this week from the North and South arm of the Coomera River, Brown Island, Tipplers Passage, The Never Fail Islands, Whallys Gutter, Mc Kenzie’s Channel, Tiger Mullet Channel, Eden Island, Jacobs Well and Eden Island.  The full moon usually gets the Crabs on the move with larger than normal high tides giving the creeks a flush out.

Flathead and Bream are being caught in reasonable numbers throughout the Broadwater and Jumpinpin area.  Yabbies, Prawns, White Pilchards, WA Pilchards and Mullet Fillet make great bait.

A few nice Mangrove Jack have been hitting baits and lures throughout the Rivers and Canals of the Gold Coast, some nice Estuary Cod and Trevally have also been caught as bycatch when targeting Jacks.

At the time of writing my report the SE will drop off Friday before kicking back into gear on Saturday and easing a bit on Sunday. Monday and Tuesday are the pick of the days with light Easterly winds and a drop in swell giving everyone a fish fishing options to explore. Take care on the water as there is a lot more traffic than normal be safe and enjoy your holidays.
