Crabs and prawns likely targets on Gold Coast

The S/SE wind has been persistent on the Gold Coast this week, limiting fishing to more sheltered areas. We have seen plenty of sunshine during the day with the isolated showers during the evenings.  Let’s have a look at what’s been happening.

After the  few recent showers of rain we have seen a bit of Prawning action around, we should start to see better numbers of Prawns during February and into March.  Just be informed about the current closure from Biosecurity Qld for the Logan and Albert River.  The white spot outbreak seems to be spreading.

The Mud Crabs seem a little more active with some nice catches reported this week with a few full rusty crabs being caught. The Coomera River, Pimpama River, Logan River, Cabbage Tree Point, Jacobs Well, Canaipa Passage, The Neverfail Islands, Brown Island and Paradise Point have all crabbed well.

Our houseboat customers have found a nice feed of Whiting, some good spots are the North Arm of the Coomera River, Crab Island, Wave Break Island, Marine Stadium, Jacobs Well, Bedrooms, Tiger Mullet Channel, Canaipa Passage, North Bedrooms and the Logan River.  Yabbies and Worms are great bait.  The Mangrove Jacks have not been on the bite this week  but it is still worth trying the Plastics, Hard Body’s or live bait if you can get hold of it.

Offshore fishing has been a bit quiet due to the wind this week, hopefully next week the wind is tipped to ease from Tuesday and you will be able to head out to the reefs for a look.

At the time of writing  it looks like we will are going to have a very hot day on Sunday with temperature expected to get up to 37.  We are also expecting strong S/SE winds to arrive on Monday which will cool the temperatures back down for the remainder of the week. The pick of the days to hit the water will be tomorrow with low winds and lots of sunshine.
