HAVEN’T hit the water too many times in the past

Rhet caught this nice 68cm  atty after plenty of perseverance casting plastics into the shallows.
There have been a few things happen that were out of my control, which is standard for this time of year.
One day in particu- lar, I took young Rhet out and when I say young it’s because he is younger than me.
Initially, we had heaps of hits and bumps, and missed a few fish – we just couldn’t quite hook up because the fish were very tentative.
month but when I have, fishing the shallows was a little trickier than normal.
On the flip side, we’ve had a few days where everything fell into line and we’ve picked up some nice fish.

Especially with it be- ing a little colder than previous years.
Anyway, I met him at the ramp at 6am and we had a short discus- sion on what he would like to do – he had de- cided to spoil himself by booking the boat for a private charter on his own.
Then after a fair chunk of persistence, Rhet hooked-up – not a big fish but around the 45cm mark.
One morning the wa- ter temperature was 16.1C – obviously that was on the surface, but at this end of the bay it was the coldest it’s been for quite a few years.
We kept putting plenty of casts in and before we knew it, he had caught himself an- other couple of fish, all around the same size unfortunately.
We have had a couple of days where not much was caught – and yes there have been days when it’s tough out there, though with fish- ing we don’t talk about those trips too much.
First, we were going to chase a few flathead on the low tide with soft plastics, as there hadn’t been as many fish around this year, we decided against trolling.
We would hook good- sized flatties and then drop them – we just could not seem to keep the fish on the hooks.
We have a tendency to talk about the good days.
