Plastics have been do- ing the most damage in the river.
For land-based fishos, squid are still in close and around rock walls down the western side of the bay.
If you’re lucky you could find snapper on the Neilsen wreck, then from Curtin Artificial Reef up to Bulwer ledge, or a few rocky areas along the shipping chan- nel off Bribie, and I have often caught tuskfish in this area.
The northern end of Harry Atkinson pro- duces better when there are less boats around, so that means a mid week fish, and the same ap- plies to Mud Island and near Peel Artificial Reef.
As the clarity of the water improves, you can usually find them sight fishing at night with a good headlamp.
In reality, you never know with snapper, they could turn up anywhere on isolated coffee rock if there’s bait around.
If you’re in a tinnie, put some carpet on the floor to stop the noise.
So, if the fish aren’t bit- ing, try for squid on the eastern side of the bay, then you won’t go home empty handed!
The river over the past few years has been pro- ducing reasonable snap- per, and even the rock wall out front is now

I like to drift on most trips, as you can cover more ground and you’re not making any noise, compared to when you’re pulling the anchor all the time to move.
