Early morning start the key on Sunshine Coast

Hi there anglers,Spanish-Mackerel-22kg

Now the Easter break has finished and most are back at work we have beautiful days. It is so good that almost anyone can take a boat outside the river mouth. Saturday looks to be the best day. An early morning start is key for the weekend fishing. Sunday may be one to watch with predictions of 15-20 knot westerly. Keep with the up to date reports on our Facebook page with morning and afternoon reports.

The estuaries have been given a slight break with everyone back to work and school. The water is clearing with the bream gradually getting thicker as the cooler weather arrives. The Maroochy River has been fishing well around Chambers Island, Goat Island and around the cod Hole. Labalsa Park and the river mouth have had great success with plenty of whiting, bream and flathead around the basin and the rock walls have had some squire and grunter. Use metal slugs and soft plastics for some mackerel action off the rock walls at the river mouth. Try throwing a few Pots around the River mouths in clean water as the sand crabs are being picked up using mullet heads.

There have been some great gutters around Pt Cartwright. Dawn and dusk with big baits can land you a magnificent Jew Fish. There is still plenty of Dart in the gutters during the day but they do disappear with the light. Use prawns, beach worms and pipi’s for the Dart as these are the best bait for beach fishing.

The boaties should enjoy the early starts better than most. With big Mackerel on live and dead baits slow trolled at various depths. There are plenty of busting up schools of Tuna chasing white bait for the sports angler. For those chasing a great feed the Reds are moving in with plenty of Grassies and Snapper also. Use Pillies and squid on a double snell 6/0 rig and you should be in with some great fish. Remember to burley as this is key to bringing the fish to you. If you have trouble with the sharks than try drifting.
