Flathead feeding on Gold Coast

The last week of May has been great with more light winds, small swell and lots of sunshine for the Gold Coast.

Regular customer Bryce has reported good numbers of Flathead being caught in the local rivers during the last week, he has been working the soft plastics hard to find some quality fish.

The rivers are holding good bait schools at the moment and the Flathead are quite active chasing a feed.

During the winter months you will find the larger fish will move further up the rivers where the water will be a bit warmer.

Good spots to try are the Coomera River both North & South arms, Logan River and the Pimpama River.

In the main Broadwater try Brown Island, Crab Island, Wave Break Island or around the Pin try Tiger Mullet Channel, Bedrooms, Jacobs Well and Canaipa Passage.

Bryce has been catching his fish on Soft Plastics, they will also hit hard body lures and take both live or dead bait.

Customers are starting to catch some quality Bream both during the day and also at night time.

Ross took his daughter for a fish at Paradise Point last weekend and they caught a couple of nice fish, best going 33cm which is a good quality Bream and extra good fun for the kids, well done.

Bream can be caught all year round but the better quality fish are defiantly caught during the winter months.

Some good land based spots to try are Grand Hotel Jetty, Lands End Biggera Creek, Paradise Point or from the boat try Wave Break Island, Gold Coast Seaway, Crusoe Island, Short Island, Tiger Mullet Channel, Jacobs Well and the Logan River.

A variety of baits will work, Prawns, Squid, Worms, Fishos, White Pilchards, Mullet Fillet and Yabbies are a good choice.

The Gold Coast Seaway has produced some nice GTs this week, along with some quality Jew Fish and Yellow Tail Kingies off the Pipeline and North Wall.

Artificial baits like Soft Plastics and Micro Jigs have been getting smashed, also live baits won’t last long if the fish are on.

Just remember to plan your trip around the tide change.

At the time of writing my report it looks like a good weekend on the way with light N/NW winds on Saturday and Sunday and some Sunshine to top it off.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au

Good luck with the Fishing.  Brett
