Flathead fever around Coomera

After a good Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend break and a nice start to the week we have some wind and rain on the way for the Gold Coast.
Regular contributor of information and customer David had a good long weekend landing and releasing a Monster Flathead at 79cm, well done mate. Reports of some nice Flathead have been filtering in during the week, the rivers have been holding a few larger models amongst some nice eating size fish. Best spots have been the Logan River, Jacobs Well, Brown Island, Crab Island, Runaway Bay Foreshore, Pimpama River and the Coomera River. Live baits like Herring, Hardy Heads and Yabbies are a great option, best dead baits are Prawns, White Pilchards, WA Pilchards and Mullet Fillet Strips. If you are targeting Flathead with bait, soft plastics or mental blades from the boat the best trick is to drift and cover as much area as possible. Drifting will keep your offering on the move and trigger a bite from the Flathead lying in wait, remember to use a quality leader to stop being bitten off and have your landing net handy as lots of fish are lost trying to land them next to the boat or on the bank.
Quality Bream have been on offer throughout Jumpinpin and Broadwater this week, we have a regular crew from the Racehorse Hotel Fishing Club out this weekend, they have been finding some nice fish the last few weeks, we look forward to seeing how they go. With the wind blowing from the South East I’d recommend trying Tiger Mullet Channel, Mc Kenzies Channel, North side of Crusoe Island, Cobby Passage and the Coomera River should be fine.
A few nice sized Whiting have been caught on Worms & Yabbies during the day, schools of Tailor should start to show up more frequently as the month progresses. My best tip to find the Tailor Schools is to target incoming tide and keep an eye out for the birds feeding.
At the time of writing my report it looks like we will see stronger SE winds for the duration of the weekend, the wind will ease by Tuesday but we may have a bit of rain on the way.
