Gold Coast blessed with fantastic weather

2

3We have been blessed to have some fantastic weather on the Gold Coast for the last week of School Holidays, it was perfect for getting on the water and having some fun.
Customers have reported good numbers of big Sand Crabs being caught this week, with the weather just starting to cool down a bit, especially at night it’s a good time to put a few pots out. When targeting Sand Crabs you should look for areas that have a mixture of Weed and Sand, try placing your pots on the edges of Sandbanks and channels on the drop off. Some spots that fished well this week were Dux Anchorage, Curtis, Tipplers Passage, Never Fail Islands, Green Bank, Crab Island and the Shoals at Jacobs Well.
I was lucky enough to have some time off with my kids this week, with the weather forecast being so good we decided to hit the water and chase a feed of Prawns. We ended up catching a few around Cabbage Tree Point and Jacobs Well, schools were small and a bit patchy at times but good fun. Talking to other boats on the water they are still finding a few prawns in Canaipa Passage, Power Lines, Logan River and along the Western side of Russell Island. Just keep an eye out for boats and cast nets being thrown and you will know you’re in the right area. It’s great to get the kids out amongst the action.
A few nice eating size Flathead (45-50cm) have landed around The Bedrooms, Tipplers Passage, Crab Island, Wave Break Island, Brown Island, Jacobs Well and the Coomera River. They are a great fish for the kids to target, you can drift either live or dead bait, when at anchor the little ones like to wind in and cast out a lot which defiantly attracts a Flathead to bite. You can also troll hard body lures or flick soft plastics like the Zman Range 3 and 4 inch minnow or curl tale.
With plenty of bait hanging around the Seaway and Pin Bar it’s worth having a look for a early season Tailor on the rising tide, you will also find Trevally and Jew Fish are still around in good numbers and great fun on light gear.
At the time of writing my report the weather is looking ok to start the weekend off, the winds will move from E/NE Saturday to N on Sunday before a stronger Southerly change to kick off the working week. We also have a New Moon Sunday with some bigger tides over the weekend expected.
