We’ve been blessed with some great weather this week on the Gold Coast, with Easter on the way the forecast is looking fantastic to get outdoors and enjoy the holidays.
I fished the Pirtek Fishing Challenge with my kids last Sunday, it’s a great day out with over 9000 anglers taking part Australia wide and all the monies raised go to men’s cancer research. We managed find a spot out of the Southerly and enjoyed a great day’s fishing. The kids managed to catch and release 15 Whiting with a couple of nice fish to enter. We also caught a few other species like Bream, Tarwine, Flathead and a leatherjacket. The results are available on the Pirtek Challenge website from Saturday 26/3/16. Venturing Offshore this week has produced a few nice Spanish Mackerel on the close reefs. If you like bottom fishing there has been a few Squire, Snapper, Trag, Moses, Jew taking WA Pillys, Squid and live baits.
Some quality Whiting have been caught in the Logan River, Coomera River, Nerang River, WaveBreak Island, Tipplers Passage, Jacobs Well and Tiger Mullet. Best bait is worms & yabbies.
For a feed of Bream and Flathead the Sandbanks and channels around Wavebreak island have been fishing well, also try Crab Island, Coomera River, The Never Fails, Curtis Anchorage, North Bedrooms, Tiger Mullet Channel, Jacobs Well around the shoals, Logan River and Canaipa Passage. Yabbies are great all round bait, the kids will have fun pumping them. I’d also recommend Worms, Prawns, White Pilchards and Mullet Fillet to catch a feed.
Just keep in mind the waterways and roads will be extra busy during Easter so be patient and mindful of others and have a great and safe Easter Break.
At the time of writing my report it looks like we will see light Easterly winds during the Easter Holidays and into next week.
