Great fishing opportunities on Sunshine Coast

G’day fellow anglers,
There have been some great fishing opportunities on the coast this week with offshore, along the beaches and in our wonderful waterways. We had a cold snap on Tuesday and Wednesday with temps getting into single figures all up the coast with more of that sort of weather still to com. There are weather reports of another cold front so rug up guys and enjoy the winter fishing frenzy.
Offshore fishing was firing with great reports of catches on the northern Barwon Banks with some nice catches of mixed reef fish. The Hards have been giving up some nice Snapper, Rosy job fish and Spangled Emperor and some marks off double island point have been showing the occasional Red Emperor. There have been a few keen anglers who stayed out overnight at the close reefs (Gneerings and Coolum reefs) on Wednesday night and bagged a nice seafood basket with Squid, Snapper, Tusk Fish and Pearlies.
The Mooloolaba rock wall is still producing a lot of excitement with school Mackerel and scattered reports of Tailor being landed on ganged pilly’s. Among these fish landed off the river mouth have been some very large Bream, Whiting and Flathead. All seem to be fighting for the bait at times.
The Beaches have been turning up a good numbers of really nice Bream and Chopper Tailor to the fisherman with a keen eye for picking the gutters (deeper water) which are forming well. At the top end of Pt Cartwright there have been a few mixed bags caught off the rock with some legal sized squire, Jew fish and thumping Bream.
With the new cold front coming we will be cold but it is ideal for river fishing over the weekend. With the new moon on Thursday night those big winter Bream and Jew should be feeding hard. There are a few nice Pike getting around the trawlers and the basin. These are great strip baits or if you’re keen enough there are a few out there who enjoy the feed too. It will be cold so wear your warm clothes and take wet weather gear just in case.
We now have a Youtube Channel so jump on and check some of the informative video’s we are
