Great Week on the Gold Coast

We’ve had a pretty good week on the Gold Coast apart from a rainy day on Tuesday the rest of the week has been kind to anyone heading out on the water.

Don’t let a bit of rain stop you having fun, the fish don’t seem to mind the overcast rainy conditions. Myself, Wayne and my daughter Rebecca managed to sneak out for a few hours on the water Tuesday and were rewarded with a nice 45cm Snapper, Tarwine and a few Moses perch which were released after a photo or two on Plastics and Blades. It’s always worth having a good look around on the sounder before you start fishing and try to locate where the bait schools are, if you can find the bait you should also find the fish.

The Gold Coast Seaway has been producing some quality Jew Fish, Trevally, Tailor and Squire this week on the pipeline. The swell has been up so you so have to keep a close eye on the waves and how close to the wall you anchor. Usually when the swell is up it brings a few fish you would normally find offshore in the Seaway to target.

Customers are still catching some nice Bream with the kids getting amongst the fish this week. Getting a burley trail going is a great way to attract the fish and also keep them in feed mode.

If you are using Prawns just peel them and use the head and shell for burley, bread is another great option. Some land based options are the Paradise Point Jetty, Lands End Biggera Waters, Grand Hotel Jetty, Southport Bridge or Coomera River Bridge. In the boat try the Coomera River, Pimpama River, Tiger Mullet Channel, Jacobs Well, Short Island and Cobby Passage are all fishing well. Prawns, White Pilchards, Mullet Fillet and Yabbies are great bait.

Reports of good catches of Whiting throughout the Broadwater and Sandbanks around Jumpinpin are still coming in this week. Good sized fish up to 40cm being caught on Yabbies and Worms. Whiting will feed best when there is some run in the tide, you just need to move around until you find the depth of water they are feeing in.

With a New Moon on Sunday the larger tides combined with a bit of rain earlier in the week should get the Mud Crabs and Sand Crabs moving. Make sure you drop the pots in while you’re fishing. Some good spots this week were Coomera River, Tipplers Passage, The Never Fail Islands, Jacobs Well, Tiger Mullet Channel, Cobby Passage, Cabbage Tree Point and the Logan River.
At the time of writing my report we have some nice weather on the way this weekend with light to moderate S/SE winds. New Moon is Sunday 10/1/16 we will have higher and lower tides than normal.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au Good luck with the Fishing.
