Pelagics, Bream, Whiting, Flathead (& More) Around Gold Coast

We have had a much better week weather wise on the Gold Coast finally seeing the Strong South Easterly winds ease enough to let anglers sneak offshore for a look. Conditions in the Broadwater and around the Pin have been great with a few nice fish being caught.

Local angler Wayne managed to sneak out offshore early in the week and landed a nice Spotty Mackerel east of the seaway. Last week’s SE winds have cleaned the water quality up nicely making conditions to chase pelagic fish good, try the bait grounds, Mermaid Reef, Palm Beach Reef or The Gravel Patch for a Spotty, also Spanish should show up soon. Casting metal slugs 38g to 50g size, slow trolling WA pilchards or anchoring up and floating out Pilchard baits on wire will all work. Trolling Skirted lures such as small Pakula’s should produce quality Dolphin Fish, Wahoo and a few Little Black Marlin have also started to filter through the Gold Coast. Just keep an eye on the weather forecast for afternoon storms rolling in while you’re on the water.

Customers reported Jumpinpin Bar entrance has produced some nice catches of Tailor on the incoming tide during the week, the bait fish in the area has also attracted trevally and some quality Jewfish which are taking lives baits, soft plastics and blades. The Gold Coast Seaway has also had a good variety of fish landed on the pipe line and north wall, try to fish the tide change for best bite time.

It has been good to see the local kids catching a few Bream, Flathead and Whiting off the bank next to our shop in the Coomera River. The Houseboat customers have found a few nice fish so far during School Holidays around Tipplers Passage, Dux, The Never Fail Islands, Tiger Mullet Channel, Bedrooms, Jacobs Well, North Arm of the Coomera River and Wave Break Island. Also try Paradise Point, Runaway Bay and Labrador foreshore are good land based spots.

I’d recommend to get the pots out for a few Mud Crabs, we have a new moon on Friday. The bigger tide range usually gets the Crabs on the move. Good numbers of Sand Crabs are still being caught.

At the time of writing my report we will see Northerly winds Friday, winds will tend South Easterly on Saturday and ease into the start of the week.
