Prawns and muddies abound around Goldy

After an extra wet start to Easter it was nice to see the rain ease and the sun shining on Easter Sunday & Monday put a smile on everyone’s face.

Let’s see what’s been biting on the Gold Coast.

The waterways have been busy over Easter, even with the extra traffic we have had reports of  catches of Prawns.

I was out last Monday with the kids and we caught a nice feed, Prawns tend to move a lot so where they were caught one day may not be good the next, you will need to move around to find the schools.

Try Jacobs Well, Cabbage Tree Point, Canaipa Passage, the Logan River or Russell Island have all produced lately. A Top Pocket cast net is a must have.

The water quality after the rain has been a bit average in the rivers and estuary’s, when you are on the water you will notice distinct colour changes where the fresh meets the salt along current lines, these areas are a great spot to try your luck.  Y

ou will find the bait schools hold in the colour change which attracts the predators.

We have had reports of Jew Fish, Tailor, Trevally, Squire and Bream being caught in and around the Gold Coast Seaway and nearby channels and also around the Pin Bar, Crusoe Island, The Bedrooms, Tiger Mullet Channel and Canaipa Passage.

It was good to see the young ones catching a few nice Bream, Whiting and Flathead on school holidays.

Marine Stadium, Buds Beach, Biggera Waters and Paradise Point for the land based crews, on the water Tipplers Passage, Crab Island, Wave Break Island, Coomera River, Jacobs Well, Tiger Mullet Channel and the Bedrooms have fished well.  Yabbies, Worms & Prawns are great bait.

There has been no shortage of Mud Crabs after the rain, Canaipa Passage, Logan River, Eden Island, Jacobs Well, Pimpama River, Never Fails and the Coomera River are producing quality crabs.

At this stage we will see the Southerly wind up on Friday & Saturday then easing on Sunday making it the pick of the days to get out for a fish.  3

Mid week looks ok with moderate Southerly winds and sunshine on the way.
