Quality crabs chewing on Gold Coast

We’ve had some stormy and rainy days here on the Gold Coast, a bit like the old weather patterns of years ago. The good news is the well overdue rain has stirred up some quality Mud Crabs just in time for the holiday season.

Quality Mud Crabs have been on the chew this week on the Gold Coast, our staff has been doing well in the Coomera River catching good numbers of quality rusty bucks.  Chasing a Mud Crab would be a great option this weekend, setting your pots in the river and feeder creek mouths, or deeper main channels to see if they are on the move.  Try the Coomera River, Pimpama River, Brown Island, The Never Fails, Tipplers Passage, Jacobs Well, Cabbage Tree Point, Tiger Mullet Channel Western End and Logan River.  Whole Mullet or Fish Frames are great bait.

Customers reported the Pin Bar entrance has produced some good sized Tailor on the incoming tide during the week, these larger fish are also moving up into the estuary’s.  The bait fish in the area has also attracted Trevally and some quality Jewfish which are taking lives baits, soft plastics and blades.  The Gold Coast Seaway has also had a good variety of fish landed on the pipe line and north wall, try to fish the tide change for best bite time.

Local kids on holidays are catching a few Bream, Flathead and Whiting off the bank next to our shop in the Coomera River.  Our Houseboat customers have found a few nice fish so far during School Holidays around Tipplers Passage, Dux, The Never Fail Islands, Tiger Mullet Channel, Bedrooms, Jacobs Well, North Arm of the Coomera River and Wave Break Island.  Also try Paradise Point, Runaway Bay and Labrador foreshore are good land based spots.

Water quality offshore has been average and cold due to the strong Northerly winds.  We have a Southerly change due over the weekend that should bring in some nicer quality water and hopefully also the Spotty and Spanish Mackerel should also move onto the local reefs in numbers soon.

At the time of writing my report we will see a stronger S/SE change move through Saturday then ease back to moderate for Sunday and onwards during the week.  Just check the forecast before heading offshore.
