Usual Suspects Biting at Tin Can Bay

Summer is here again.  With only a week left until school holidays officially kick off it’s a good time to start making plans.  The past week has seen a variety of different weather from stinking hot and muggy days to gale force winds to 50 knots.  That being said there has still been a few reports coming through before the wind picked up.

Whiting, flathead and trevally in Pelican Bay whilst there has also been the odd mackerel being caught around Inskip Point and Fraser Island. In the creeks the usual suspects are about with mangrove jack, cod and grunter.  Live herring, silver biddies and poddy mullet will usually do the trick as well as flesh baits of mullet fillet.

Looking at the forecast for the weekend ahead it looks like the strong wind is set to continue throughout with only a small window of opportunity around first light on Sunday morning before the wind picks up again. Kauri creek will be more than likely the best spot to wet a line over the weekend and can be accessed via the Tinnanbar road.  If you aren’t familiar with the area best to stop past the shop and pick up the latest green zone maps for the Great Sandy Straits.  Alternatively Tuan and Carlo Creeks will be other good options to hit the water.

Don’t forget to stop past the shop if your looking for some gift ideas for Christmas we have some pretty good deals across the board at present from rods and reels to lures and tackle storage options.  Ask about our take home layby option when your next in store. Until next week stay safe on the water.

Regards,

Jim Cole
