Winter’s got the works in Bundy

BUNDABERG INSHORE

The inshore reefs will be producing some cracker snapper and grunter this weekend. The 4 mile and the Artificial Reef off Elliot Heads should be the hot spots. Jigging soft vibes and 5” soft plastics off the bottom will get you into some action. Also, if you’re more into bait fishing, lightly sinking pilchards and squid to the bottom will produce the goods as well. The first light in the morning is definitely my favourite bite time.

THE BURNETT RIVER

The Burnett has been fishing quite well with bream and flathead in good numbers. Towards the mouth seems to be where most of the action is being had. 3” soft plastics have been getting plenty of the bites and using prawns as bait has been doing the job as well. The North Wall is one of the best spots especially with the small tides we have this weekend. Be sure to keep your cast net handy because there’s still some nice prawns getting around.

THE KOLAN RIVER AND BAFFLE CREEK

The two standout fish for the Kolan and the Baffle is flathead and grunter. Using sprat as bait and using soft plastics up to 5” will get you the bite. Surprisingly, the mangrove jack have been having a chew as well so be sure to have a flick on your favourite rock bars. There has also been some very good quality mud crabs being caught so be sure to drop some pots in.

LAKE MONDURAN

There’s still some tanks of barramundi being caught up at Lake Monduran, even with these cooler conditions. Fishing mid to late afternoon seems like the way to go. Concentrate more in the shallow windblown bays. Jackal Squirrels and Samaki Redics have been the go to lures. Remember to fish with confidence, you never know when that monster barra will jump on your lure!
