Mercury’s stunning new 135hp FourStroke

135-FourStrokeMERCURY Marine has added another category-leading engine to its range with the release of a new 135hp FourStroke EFI outboard. Designed to provide reliability and durability, no matter what is thrown at it, Mercury’s compact 135hp also delivers tremendous performance and outstanding fuel efficiency. Mercury Marine Australia, New Zealand and Pacific director of engines and marketing Nicholas Webb said, “We’ve developed this model specifically from the feedback given to us by Australian and New Zealand consumers and dealers.”

“They love our latest-generation high cubic capacity, low-weight FourStrokes and wanted the same technology to fit to 135hp and 140hp-rated boat transoms. “It’s exciting just how competitive this model is, with its 3-litre capacity going well above competitor four strokes at just 1.8 or 2 litres. “Customers are definitely going to be impressed by the refinement and performance characteristics of this engine. “It’s every bit as good as its FourStroke siblings.”

The compact 135hp engine has a 3-litre, inline four-cylinder configuration, is low weight, has fewer moving parts than other motors and has been designed to be incredibly reliable and durable. It is ready, willing and able to handle work in any conditions. Its 12.5cm gearcase housing is built to handle higher horsepower, but thanks to ultra-efficient hydrodynamics this larger housing doesn’t increase drag. The new 135hp also features a life-long maintenance-free valve train.

Mercury’s focus mount system is employed too, which situates the mounts farther from the powerhead, significantly reduces mount temperature and therefore increases mount durability. A lightweight, thermo-bonded top cowl on the motor provides for a long life, watertight seal and easy access. High-grade steel is used to produce the motor’s balance shaft gears.

Of course, as with many of Mercury’s latest FourStroke models, the new 135hp can be rigged with the full suite of SmartCraft gauges and Mercury’s innovative Big Tiller system. “Like the 150hp before it, this is an engine that has it all – reliability, smooth operation, a great torque curve, low weight, compact size and excellent fuel economy,” Nicholas said.
