Hi Everyone, it was nice to see our Coomera Houseboat Holidays customers enjoy another great weekend on the Gold Coast seeing plenty of sunshine and light winds. Mid-week we saw a drop in temperature and a few showers. As school holidays kick off on the Gold Coast the weekend is looking great for families heading outdoors for some fun with the kids. Let’s have a look at what has been biting.

As school holidays kick off it’s a great time to introduce kids to the fun of going fishing, we have a great range of budget kids fishing combos at Coomera Bait and tackle and we can help with setting you up and giving you the right advice on bait and where to take the kids to catch a fish on the Gold Coast. Lots of family’s enjoy spending time with the kids fishing, I think it is great to see the kids get out of the house off their devices and experience the fun of fishing. Catching bait is great fun and the kids really enjoy being shown how to pump yabbies, throw a cast net or even how to catch beach worms. Some land based fishing options on the coast include the Coomera River end of Shipper Drive, Coomera River Highway Bridge, Coomera Weir, Hope Island Boykambil Jetty, Jabiru Island, Paradise Point Jetty , Lands End Biggera Waters, Grand Hotel Jetty, Broadwater Parklands, Southport Bridge, Marine Stadium and the Nerang River. Just keep it simple, use a basic running sinker rig this will work for most species including Bream, Flathead, Whiting, Trevally and Tailor just to name a few. Good bait options are Prawns, White Pilchards, Mullet Fillet, Worms and Yabbies. It’s the best feeling seeing the smile on their little faces when they land a fish, if you have any fish photos make sure you share them with us brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au and good luck Kids.

The weather was great last Saturday so I headed out with my daughter for a look around the Broadwater, we started by finding some good schools of Tailor feeding on bait fish in the deep channels around Paradise Point and Runaway bay. Metal slugs and also TT Switch Blades worked well accounting for a few good sized fish and also a couple of bite offs unfortunately i prefer to use leader rather than wire to get more bites but that’s fishing. As the tide dropped we switched to soft plastics and targeted Flathead, we worked the edges of the Sandbanks from Sovereign Islands down to Wavebreak Island and then moved north to fish the North Arm of the Coomera River and scored a few nice Flathead and some good sized Flounder. We were using a 3/8 TT Lures headlockZ jig head and a combination of  Zman StreakZ 3.75”, Zman StreakZ Curly Tails 4” and Zerek Fish Traps in the deeper water all produced fish. Customers have reported some good sized fish showing up around Jumpinpin with Mike Hollows catching and releasing an 81cm Flathead last week on his Houseboat Holiday, try looking around the entrance to Jacobs Well, Whalleys Gutter, Tipplers Island, Bedrooms, Tiger Mullet Channel, Kalinga Bank and Canapia Passage.

Trevally have been in good numbers chasing bait fish and have been responding well to Surface Lures, Shallow Divers and Metal Slugs worked around structure like pontoons, bridges and rock walls in the Coomera River, Paradise Point, Runaway Bay, Marina Mirage and the Nerang River.

Brad Smith Fishing Charters have reported another good week landing some nice Bream, Whiting and plenty of quality Flathead on metal blade vibe lures, White Pilchards and Yabbies for their customers in the Nerang River and Tweed River systems.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any great catches or photos you would like to share, please email us and let us know how you went.

Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/

At the time of writing my report the forecast looks like we will see a good weekend to kick off School Holidays. Friday will see light NW winds then tend light to moderate N on Saturday making it the best day for heading out for a fish. Sunday will see a Southerly change move in and an increase in wind strength to Moderated.  Just make sure you have the latest weather report before you head out on the water.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au    Good luck with the Fishing.  Brett
