Procraft boats pack a punch on a budget

AS the number of cheap imports expands onto the Australian marketplace, it is good to see a local boat manufacturer meeting them head on.
Procraft is a new range of Australian-built and designed aluminium boats aimed at the budget conscious angler.
Even though priced at a certain point in the market, they have really been designed to perform.
The base model of the range is currently a 4.2m tiller steer boat with a 30hp 2-stroke Suzuki that retails for $7990.

Next size up is the 4.3m centre console, which is a unique boat with ample fishing room.
Packaged with a 30hp 2-stroke Suzuki, you are looking at just over $12,000 to hit the water.

Also included in the range is the 4.7m model which is probably my pick for value and performance.
This boat is available with a 40hp 2-stroke for under $20,000 which is great value for money.
I tested it with a 50hp 4-stroke and liked the balance of the boat and engine.

The 470 side console ticked all the boxes.

Powered by a Suzuki 2-stroke, the 430 was a rocket.

Even though these boats are price oriented, they still have a long list of standard inclusions.
Things such as self-draining anchor well, carpeted floor, side pockets, raised carpeted casting platform with storage hatch, underfloor fuel tank, and upholstered swivel seats are all included in the price of the 4.7m model.

In fact there is a lengthy list, with everything you need to hit the water including rego and safety gear.
Obviously you can deck Procraft boats out a little more if you want or upgrade the engine if it’s within your budget.
And they remain an affordable option even if you decide to do this, with the price of the 4.7m side console including the 50hp Suzuki 4-stroke still under $24,000.
This sort of price-tag makes it a great option for first time boaties or anyone looking to upgrade their smaller boat.

Rounding out the range is the 5m model in either a cuddy cabin, centre console or side console.
The overall finish of these boats is first class and I like the wide sides with the rounded edge on the 4.3m model and above.
As these boats are less than 5m in length, the use of space is important and there does seem to be a good mix of storage options and fishing room, which is what you need in smaller boats.
Rounding out the packages is a Dunbier trailer, which is standard to all models.
