THE annual Moura Muddy Water Classic Family Fishing Competition took place on the Dawson River at Moura on April 9 and 10.
The weather was ideal for the many anglers and campers who participated, with cool mornings and clear skies. Even the Dawson River helped the tournament live up to its name, with the water running a very dark muddy brown.
Event organiser the Moura Fish Stocking Group was kept busy with nominations, selling raffle tickets and supplying plenty of good food and cold drinks.
A total of 425 nominations included 163 juniors.
The Barefoot Fisherman Dave Hodge was present and as always demonstrated his casting expertise and shared his knowledge of fish, fishing and the environment. Every nominated species other than yellowbelly and barramundi was weighed in, making for a total of 82 fish going over the weigh table.
Once again, Moura’s local Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union branch sponsored and presented the fishing rod and reel combo prizes to all major lucky draw winning junior anglers on the Saturday night.
Moura Apex Club sponsored the major lucky draws and presented them to the delighted winners on Sunday.
During the presentations, long-time president of the Moura Fish Stocking Group Graeme McGreevy was presented with a well-deserved lifetime membership.
All profits from the comp go towards buying fingerlings to restock the Dawson River at Moura. Moura Fish Stocking Group sincerely thanks all the wonderful sponsors of the event.
