Cod at Copeton Dam

WHILE I do know a lot about Murray cod and I’ve always been intrigued by them, I’ve never fished for them.

I’m very excited to have the chance to fish with guys who really know their stuff.

Not only will we be chasing one of our awesome iconic Australian fish but the location we will be heading to is meant to be insane. Now, I don’t kiss and tell but when you get invited to fish someone’s backyard on private property it’s a real privilege because these spots are kept very secret between cod fishers for reasons I’m about to learn.

I’ve been advised to sign a code of silence and I have no problem with that. I’m not sure a blindfold for the trip in or spinning me in circles 20 times is necessary, but I’d be cool with that too.

If you have some great cod pics, please post them to our 3waysfishin Facebook page because we would love to show everyone how good these fish really are.

Justin Carrol and Parto from 3waysfishin caught up with a few other cod boys and travelled to Copeton Dam recently.

As you can see in the pictures, these fish are pretty amazing. The boys were planning on fishing late through the night but the cold did its job to send them back to the open fire and wait until the following morning to head out again.

I can’t blame them for quitting. However, the next morning Justin landed two 90cm hard-pulling cod.

Both fish were caught on his home-made surface lures that I’m told he calls Justo’s Special Handmade Crawlers. Apparently they work a treat.

When I get the chance to meet Justin on the next trip I might slip away with his tackle bag and score me a few haha. Top job Justin and see you soon.

Parto captured a little cod on the trip as well.
