It had to happen eventually after such an awesome run of weather on the Gold Coast the wind has moved in to spoil the party. Lucky we have such a diverse area to explore there is always somewhere to hide out of the wind and catch a feed.
Customers have been scoring a few Jewfish around Jumpinpin this week. Live bait like Mullet, Pike, Herring, legal Tailor, Yakkas and Winter Whiting or dead baits like Squid, Mullet Fillet and WA Pilchards have accounted for a few Jew. Working large Zman soft plastics and vibes around bait schools is another exciting way to get a bite. Try fishing the Pin Bar entrance, Kalinga Bank, Canaipa Passage, Five Ways, Tiger Mullet Channel and Marks Rocks in the Logan River. The Gold Coast Seaway has also produced some nice Jew off the pipeline and north wall using the same methods.
A few nice Whiting have been caught lately, they are biting on both worms and yabbies. Our Houseboat customers have managed to land a nice feed. Try the Logan River, Canaipa Passage, Jacobs Well Shoals, Bedrooms, Tiger Mullet Channel, Coomera River, Paradise Point, Nerang River and Wave Break Island sandbanks. I recommend using a long fluro carbon trace of 6lb, a size 6 hook matched with a 4 ball sinker will do the trick.
Flathead dominate catches reported by customers in the Broadwater, Jumpinpin and local rivers on the Gold Coast this week. A variety of different size fish are being caught from big 80cm+ Fish to good eating size fish in that 45cm to 55cm range and plenty of little rats. With the Flathead Classic hosted by the Gold Coast Sport Fish Club fast approaching the signs are looking good. I was out on Sunday and managed to score a few fish casting Zman plastics. As we head closer to Flathead breeding season September/October the fish will be on the move closer to both ocean entrances, fishing around the Jumpinpin Bar entrance and the Gold Coast Seaway will start fire. If you manage to catch a big fish keep working that area as there will be good numbers of medium size male fish around to target. Some different methods to try depending on where you are fishing will be trolling Zerek Tango Shads, working Zman Soft Plastics, TT Blades and Zerek Fish Traps are all good options. Some good spots to look are Wave Break Island, The Gold Coast Seaway, Marine Stadium, Currigee, Brown Island, Aldershots, Tipplers Passage, Curtis, Bedrooms, Jumpinpin Bar, Kalinga Bank, Jacobs Well, Tiger Mullet Channel, The Never Fail Islands, Kalinga Bank, Crusoe Island and Canaipa Passage.
Tailor are well spread out through the Broadwater and Jumpinpin area, a bit of a mixture of size of fish depending on the school you find. Keep an eye out for birds working bait and also your sounder as I have found them sitting on the bottom in the deeper water around bait.
Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any reports please let us know how you went.
