What a mix of different weather this past week from absolute glorious conditions earlier in the week including some stinking hot days to strong winds that would blow a dog off it’s chain and now rain at Tin Can Bay! Looking at the forecast for the weekend this wind is set to decrease over the next few days although will still be blowing around 10-15 knots on Saturday and Sunday.
If your looking for somewhere protected to wet a line over the weekend then try Carlo and Snapper Creeks or around Bullock Point/Pelican Bay. Try for flathead, whiting, bream and trevally.
Before the wind picked up the offshore scene was fishing well with pelagic species such as wahoo and tuna being caught along with pearl perch, hussar and snapper coming from the close in reefs.
With a heat wave forecast for early next week set to see temperatures hit 32 degrees it will be worthwhile hitting the creeks in search of a few mangrove jack. Live baits of herring, silver biddies and poddy mullet are all prime bait when chasing jacks although if your in a rush try mullet fillet or frozen red spot whiting.
Until next week stay safe on the water.

Jim Cole
