A nice mackerel to land before the season starts.

Mackerel off Sunshine Coast

Hi there anglers,

Weather this weekend in a word one would describe as “Windy” with 25knot plus winds Saturday accompanied by a strong wind warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for Friday, Sunday looks to be the the better pick this weekend with the south/south easterlies predicted at 15 knots.

The close reef’s this week have been in most part the only off shore fishing reports we have had due to unsettled conditions off shore. There have been some feeding schools of School mackerel off Point Cartwright and around the Gneerings with them falling prey to floated Pillies, chrome lures and livies. From Old Woman right through to Raper shoal and Currimundi have shown some glimpses of small tuna and King Fish in recent times. These reefs have also been producing some nice bags of reef fish such as some great shallow water Pearl perch, snapper and Tuskies.

The Rock walls at the mouth of the Mooloolah River have been producing some large Squid some weighing in at more than a kilo. School Mackerel and Tailor have been caught at the mouth and off the rocks with Tailor still been landed at the beach. We have received an unusual story for my ears. A lone angler fishing on the Buddina Beach stretch was actively trying his luck for some Tailor and flathead while he was entertaining himself with some Dart he also managed to catch a legal sized Snapper strait out of a nice deep hole/gutter. Well done to him and I hope this is a sign for some fantastic fishing this summer.
