Promising Results On Kawana Close Reefs

Hi there anglers,

Well the weather has been a bit like a yoyo recently with wind and rain coming and going. The outlook looks to be the same. With winds picking up late in the week it does look to taper down leading into Sunday and the start of next week.

There were only a few boats that did head offshore this week with the window of opportunity being Tuesday. The close reefs were hit and the results were promising. When this wind and swell dies off there will be some good fishing with plenty of bait around. The Squid are in big numbers and the Squire are close in and are around 50cm in size. The school Mackerel are around with some nice Tailor as well. The Spanish Mackerel and Billfish shouldn’t be too far away with them hitting Harvey Bay and Noosa already.

The localised land-based fishing has been hitting new heights over the last few weeks. The upper reaches are landing some good Dusky Flathead and Mangrove Jack with Minyama bridge a good spot to land a few as well.

The Mooloolah River mouth has continued with the same over the last few weeks as the School Mackerel seem to travel between Pt Cartwright Headland to Old Woman. They have been accompanied by a few Tailor and beneath them are some big Bream, Grunter and Squire. The Basin and towards the boat ramp has seen some good winter Whiting in big numbers with plenty of Bream and Flatty’s amongst them as well. For the sports angler there are more and more trevally starting to make their way around the trawlers and banks around Labalsa Park.  The crabs are starting to make a move with the warmer waters coming and the fresh water of the last few weeks feeding the rivers.
