Welcome one and all to Stanage Bay, Percy Isles, Shoalwater Bay and surrounding islands,
The Road into Stanage Bay has been graded and is better than the bruce highway. However, don’t be complacent, for its still only gravel and changes with traffic, wind and rain…on a daily basis. Please respect it and the graziers by not throwing your cans and bottles beside it when having a pit stop. In terms of Stanage Bay fishing, the estuary – Thirsty Sound – has been quite fruitful with bream, cod and parrot fish. There have been totally lost sand crabs around west side of long island and near big creek on the mainland.
The muddies, although not in plague proportion, certainly are still proof the monster muddy still exists with photos being taken of female monsters breeding with the bucks, and yes I have seen them with eggs. So let us all of us forget about the story of legalising females once and for all, big females do breed and they do produce eggs here at Stanage, anyway. The barra should be on the headlands and islands now and with the cold snap, the flat salmon should be in the mainland creeks, south end in and around the jigsaw passages , along with westside of long island.
Following closely behind will see the blue salmon, then king…otherwise known as threadfin. Into the blue yonder known as the coral sea, good catches of legal red emperor, grassy sweet lip, small and large mouth nannygai, nobby snapper, spanish mackerel, cobia, trevally all should be waiting for an easy feed. Have your bait ready cut up to go, take plenty of ice, it is not expensive and a must have. Lures are a must for trolling the big spannos, not a problem if you forget something – for in the boatyard, at the back is Stanage Bay Marine & Accommodation, Von, and I can help you with most things…favourite saying “I can get you into or out of trouble, no problem”.
With a variety of bait and the ice is an assortment of sizes. The price is budgeted for the normal hard working person, come on give me a try.
