Sunshine Coast – weekly fishing report

After what seems like weeks of wet and windy weather, this weekend is looking perfect to get out and wet a line! Spring-like conditions are expected over the weekend with warm sunny days and light winds. Conditions look pretty good up until next Thursday when the winds start to pick up. The Solunar Calendar indicates Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week are to be the best days for fishing efficiency.

Offshore Fishing

Offshore has seen catches of tuskfish, red emperor, amberjack, cobia and hussar on the Barwon Banks and the Hards. Those fishing off Double Island Point have reported some good sweetlip, moses perch and tuskfish, while those off Caloundra have had luck with tuskfish and sweetlip.

Remember the snapper and pearl perch closure runs until August 15.

Taj caught this nice jewfish during a night session this week.

Noosa and Maroochy

Noosa fishos have reported bream at the river mouth, along with some good sized flathead for those willing to persist. Tailor and trevally continue to be reported in good numbers in Woods Bay, whilst bream are still being caught at Tewantin.

The Maroochy River has been quiet, with a few catches of bream and flathead reported over the last week. There’s been good sized tailor around Bli Bli and towards the upper reaches.

Around the Cod Hole and up to Chambers Island has been the pick of the spots if you’re chasing big flathead or decent sized trevally. 3” Paddle Tails are still your best option.

Not much has been reported off the beach at Mudjimba, with weather conditions keeping most fishos away. A few tailor have been reported off the northern beaches and also at Kawana.

Jake nabbed a nice 48cm flathead.

Caloundra

There’s still jewfish hanging around the beaches in the deeper gutters on low tide from Currimundi through to Point Cartwright. Flathead have been in good numbers around the mouth of Bells Creek, continuing south along the weed beds and around the entrance to the Narrows.

Plenty of dart and good sized whiting has been reported off north Bribie Island caught using beach worms and yabbies.
