Wilson Moreton Bay & Offshore Family Fishing Classic

THIS year’s Wilson Moreton Bay & Offshore Family Fishing Challenge will be held from June 5-8 over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

The event attracts not only the locals but keen anglers from across southeast Queensland.

Entertainment

This year the entertainment is based on the whole family coming down and spending some quality time together, with rides and face painting for the kids and music on the main stage.

As a first, this year fishing simulators will be present for the big and little kids, and prizes will be involved at the end of the comp.

Adults can always just relax in the bar and tell a few stories about those tight lines that never got resolved.

Fishing competition and prizes

With the four-bay public boat ramp only metres away from our great facility and the Redland Bay Coast Guard, the competition experience is a little easier.

Cash and great prizes worth tens of thousands of dollars are on offer this year and you don’t even have to catch a fish during the competition to walk away with some fantastic prizes, you just have to be entered in the comp to be in with a chance.

The major prize for the seniors this year is a Sea Jay 4.25m Magnum 2 with a 30hp Yamaha two-stroke, generously donated by Stones Corner Marine.

For the juniors, the major prize consists of an awesome kayak package including paddle, trolley and PFD as well as a $500 BCF voucher.

A number of fishing categories will be in play this year.

These include seniors, ladies and juniors as well as the Mossops Bait and Tackle Secret Weight for a nominated fish; the Bonza Graphics Catch and Release Flathead category for the largest flathead; and the Wilson Grand Slam, which will entail offshore and inshore sections.

Offshore will be an accumulation of weight for snapper, pearl perch, sweetlip and cobia.

Inshore will consist of whiting, bream, snapper and jew.

The usual fish prizes are also on offer and include Big Knobby Club, Kilo Bream Club, 40cm Whiting Club, flathead, snapper, pearl perch, jew, pelagic, sweetlip, tailor and cobia.

These are all in combination with daily prizes as well as five junior and 10 senior calls for the lucky hat each day.

This puts you in the draw for a chance to win the major prize.

Sponsor displays

Numerous sponsor stalls including Wilson Fishing and Mossops will be present, meaning you will be able to talk the talk with the experts and get some great advice on new products.

Berserk Australia will have a range of new lures on display and Stones Corner Marine will display a couple of boating packages, so be sure to check these out.

Some Humminbird experts will be at the competition to help you fine tune your Humminbird electronics, so bring them along.

Entry

Secure your place in this year’s competition so your family and friends can have an exceptional long weekend at our venue located at 247 The Esplanade, Redland Bay Queensland 4165.

Tickets cost $120 for seniors and $30 for juniors under 16 years of age.

Entry forms can be downloaded at www.rbafc.org.au or you can contact Colin on 0434 148 705.

You can also get them from Mossops Bait and Tackle Cleveland, Stones Corner Marine, Victoria Point Bait & Tackle, Auto Parts Victoria Point, Dave’s Bayside Bait and Tackle and keep an eye out in the Redland City Bulletin.
