Great prizes the lure for 2018 SCIBS ‘Fly Scoot’ Bream Shoot Out

RETURNING this year to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show is the perennially popular SCIBS fishing tournament, known as the 2018 SCIBS ‘Fly Scoot’ Bream Shoot Out, presented by Shimano.

The winner-takes-all contest takes place Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May and promises to be great fun for participants and visitors to the Show alike. SCIBS ambassador and fishing guru Paul Burt, 7 News’ weather, beach, boating and fishing expert is patron of the 2018 SCIBS ‘Fly Scoot’ Bream Shoot Out.

“The legendary tournament always attracts a high calibre of amateur fishos and in 2018, it will be bigger and better,” said ‘Burty’, a keen angler himself. There’s an exceptional prize package on offer which we are confident will really excite interest from teams from far and wide. Each day, the public can also get up close to the catch and enjoy the weigh-in and release.”

In 2018, SCIBS is celebrating its 30th anniversary milestone event, and to celebrate, Burty said the prize pool for this year’s fishing tournament is significant, thanks to the generosity of major sponsors, Scoot Airlines and Shimano. First prize will see the winning team reel in return flights to Thailand flying Scoot Airlines departing from any major city in Australia and staying at the 5-star Pullman Phuket Arcadia Naithon Beach Resort in an ocean view room, including daily breakfast and VIP transfers to and from the airport, plus a range of Shimano Fishing Tackle and a Garmin Electronics package.

The Runner Up prizes for the Bream Shoot Out include packages of Shimano fishing gear, Garmin Electronics, Soft Plastic Lures from Tackle World Labrador and Seafood Vouchers from Scales Seafoods. “The format will be a two-person team, using bait and lures,” Burty said. “Fishing starts from 6am and weigh in will be at 1pm at the Sanctuary Cove Marina. Teams may bring in a total of 10 fish per team per day and fish must be brought back in live. Fishing grounds extend from the Jumpinpin, south to the back waters of the Nerang River. There is to be no land-based fishing, only boats, kayaks and canoes. The team with heaviest two-day combined weight wins!”

For those fishos in the market for a new boat, engine, accessories, rods, reels or safety gear, SCIBS has all this and more at this year’s Show, including more than 10,000m² prominent exhibition space within The Boatyard and the new Sports, Leisure and Fishing Boats precinct, dedicated to boats up to 8m. Visitors will enjoy an unparalleled choice of versatile RIBs, day boats, weekenders, aluminium and fiberglass fishing boats, plus high-performance sports, ski and tow boats. The Sports, Leisure and Fishing Boats precinct will also feature daily fishing demonstrations and masterclasses at the Berkley Supertank, including educational boating seminars and workshops, and a jam-packed program of family-friendly entertainment.

SCIBS general manager Johan Hasser said the trailerable segment is a great ‘Show within the Show’ and will please boaties of all interests. “Exhibitors have been enthusiastic this year, taking bigger space and bringing more of their latest models, meaning a larger range of vessels, engines and gear for visitors to compare, plus special Boat Show packages and finance deals. We are certain it will inspire visitors who are eager to dip a toe into the boating lifestyle and those keen to upgrade to the latest and greatest models.”

The SCIBS 2018 ‘Fly Scoot’ Bream Shoot Out presented by Shimano is open to amateurs and professional anglers at a cost of $50 per person ($100 per team) with their own registered vessel and ID. The public is welcome to share the excitement of the live weigh-ins on Saturday and Sunday.
