gold coast trevally

Gold Coast trevally turning it on

It’s been a bit of a windy week on the Gold Coast, with the southeasterlies persisting. The wind is tipped to ease for the weekend thank goodness, let’s see what’s been biting this week.

Customers have been able to find a few good spots in the rivers and around Jumpinpin to hide out of the wind this week and caught a nice feed of Whiting. Good spots are the North Arm of the Coomera River, Pimpama River, Wave Break Island western side, Nerang River, Logan River, Jacobs Well, and Tiger Mullet Channel. Yabbies and Worms are the best bait.

Mud Crabs seem a little more active this week, there are lots of different sized crabs moving in the Coomera River this week with plenty hitting bait when fishing. We scored a few good bucks this week with some good sized full rusty crabs on offer. The Coomera River both arms, Pimpama River, Logan River, Cabbage Tree Point, Jacobs Well, Canaipa Passage, The Neverfail Islands, Brown Island and Paradise Point have all crabbed well.

The good old Gold Coast trevally have been smashing bait schools in the Coomera River around River Links, West of the Highway Bride and the Sanctuary Cove Arm of the river around jetties. Other good spots to look are the Runaway Bay and Paradise Point canals and bridges, especially the well lit-up ones that attract bait schools at night. Surface poppers and stickbaits will work well. If the Jacks are a bit quiet, it’s always good to know you have a chance at hooking a hard-fighting Gold Coast trevally.

It looks like we will finally get a break from the windy weather on Saturday, depending on swell on the local bars heading offshore could be worth a look. Bottom fishing for a Snapper, Moses, Parrot, Trag or Jew will be an option depending on the current.  Hopefully the Southerly wind during the week has pushed in some clean water onto the shallow reefs also bring the Spotty and Spanish Mackerel with it. For those anglers keen to chase sports fish trolling for a Marlin, Wahoo, Dolphin fish or Tuna it a great option after the blow.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any reports please let us know how you went.

Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/

At the time of writing my report the forecast for Friday and Saturday looks good with light SE to NE winds on the way. Sunday will see an increase in the wind and a swing in direction to the N/NW. Just make sure you have the most up to date weather forecast before heading out on the water. Watch the swell on the local bars if you are thinking of heading offshore.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au    Good luck with the Fishing.  Brett
