It’s nice to finally see some good weather here on the Gold Coast last weekend and also to finish off the second week of School Holidays, definitely well overdue. Let’s see what our customers and staff have been catching.
As we move into April the weather pattern is starting to transition and we should be in for some great fishing after the rain as the water and air temp starts to cool off a bit. I have noticed a cooler SW wind in the morning this week already.
With a good weather forecast on Tuesday morning I thought it was a great opportunity to get the kids out on the water and target prawns. We launched the boat at Cabbage Tree Point and headed north, stopping off for a look at a few normal spots including Rocky Point, Powerlines, Karragarra and Top of Russell Island. We could see a few nets being cast in the distance just south of Macleay Island. After joining all the other boats, we used the sounder to locate the better shows of Prawns and started throwing the Top Pocket cast net. We were averaging about 20+ Prawns a cast with the odd good pocket with close to half a bucket in one cast. The kids had a great time and did well throwing the smaller nets getting into the action. We ended up with aprox 15 kg of Prawns to share around the family which was a great result for a few hours of fun.
The Coomera River is holding a fair bit of bait at the moment which in turn has seen some good fishing with quite a few species being caught by customers. There have been plenty of Bull Sharks on offer upriver near the High Way bridge, Tailor have been caught casting lures into the bait school up the back of the river as well. Some good quality Mangrove Jack and Trevally are on offer throughout the South and North Arm fishing around structure such as jetty’s, bridges and rock walls.
The Gold Coast seaway and southern Broadwater has been fishing week for Bream, some good sized fish are being caught in good numbers on lures and bait. When bait fishing I recommend a good burley trail to keep the fish in feed mode. Best baits are Prawns, Mullet Gut, Mullet Fillet, White Pilchards and Yabbies will all work well. As the water cools down the numbers of Bream on offer throughout the Broadwater and Jumpinpin will get better and better.

At the time of writing my report the forecast looks like we will see Moderate N/NW winds on Friday and Saturday before easy a bit on Sunday. The wind will make the days a bit warmer than normal and can also make the water a bit dirty depending on how long in blows for the N/NW. Looks like the rain is pretty much behind us now which is a nice. Just make sure your up to date with restrictions and boat ramp closures on the Gold Coast during the Commonwealth Games period.
