BUNDABERG OFFSHORE
The offshore fishing lately has been red hot. Plenty of big red emperor and coral trout have been caught. Most the reds have been caught on flesh bait and the trout have been caught on pilchard and 5” soft plastics. Remember to fish your favourite spots on the tide change. You can’t beat that bite time!
BUNDABERG INSHORE
The inshore reefs have been producing plenty of school mackerel over the past week. Fast retrieving 50g Flasha Spoons vertically off the bottom and floating pilchard out the back on gang hooks is definitely the standout technique to get a feed. There’s still some very nice snapper and grunter being caught so be sure to fish the bottom as well.
THE BURNETT RIVER
The Burnett has been turning it on with the prawns again this week. The deeper holes in the river seem to be the standout areas to chase them. Remember… going one hour either side of low tide is the go. With the water starting to warm up now, barramundi and mangrove jack are starting to get on the scene. The shallow rock bars have been the go-to places to chase them. Hopping soft vibes and setting out livies has been getting the most action. Also don’t forget to throw the crab pots in, there are some tasty mud crabs getting around.
THE KOLAN RIVER AND BAFFLE CREEEK
Mangrove jack have started to chew in these two systems over the past week of warmer weather. Slow rolling 3” paddle tail soft plastics out of mangroves and over rock bars is the way to go. Using the same technique has been catching plenty of good-sized flathead as well. There are also some very nice sized whiting being caught, so be sure to pump some yabbies and fish the morning incoming tide for a tasty feed.
LAKE MONDURAN
Lake Monduran has really turned it on over the past week. Plenty of barramundi have been caught over the magic metre. Slow rolling large paddle tail soft plastics sure has been getting plenty of action. Also, Jackal Squirrels and Zerek Live Mullet have been catching their fair share as well. Remember to fish the wind-blown points and bays, and the afternoon definitely seems to be the best bite time.
This year’s Tackle World Bundaberg Family Fishing Classic held at Lake Monduran will now be run online over a two-month period due to COVID-19 restrictions. Terms and conditions will be written up over the next week, so keep an eye out on the Monduran Anglers and Stocking Association Facebook page and on their website https://masa-fishstocking.org.au/ The amount of cash and prizes for the competition is outstanding and well worth getting onboard. Funds raised go towards stocking the lake with fingerlings and benefits the Lake Monduran barra fishing community.
