The weather gods have been in a great mood this week on the Gold Coast, giving us light winds and small swell, allowing anglers to head offshore and go chasing reef fish. Our School Holiday Houseboat customers have had great conditions and good fishing in the Broadwater and Jumpinpin area as well.
It was great to finally see the wind and swell ease last weekend giving local anglers a long overdue opportunity to get offshore to chase some reef fish. The good weather continued during the week seeing customers catching some great quality Snapper and other species. I was lucky enough to get out on Saturday with my mate Wayne and daughter Bec, we fished the local 18 – 20 fathom reefs east of the Seaway picking up some nice Snapper, Spangled Emperor, Tusk Fish and Trag Jew. It was a bit quiet at times and you really needed to hunt around on the sounder to find the best spots to fish on. Once you find the fish just keep the burly going and you should keep them on the chew, most of the Snapper we caught were all spitting out the burley we were using. Float lining WA pilchards, Whole Large Squid, Mullet Fillet, Bonito and live Yakkas did the trick just nicely. Reports of good fish have been coming in from the 50, 36 and 24 fathoms reefs as well with a good variety of fish being caught like Snapper, Cobia, Pearl Perch, Tusk, Trag and some good sized Jew Fish from the closer reefs.
Our Houseboat customers have been catching plenty of Flounder around the Pin the last couple of weeks when chasing Bream and Flathead. Quality Bream have been around in good numbers at Short Island, Crusoe Island, Mc Kenzies Channel, Tiger Mullet Channel, Little Rocky Point and Marks Rocks in the Logan.
Customers have reported Flathead in the shallow water on the top of sandbanks throughout the Broadwater and Jumpinpin at high tide. Try the deeper edges of the sandbanks as the tide starts to fall along with creek and river mouths. Deep gutters are also a good spot to look as Flathead are ambush predators as the bait swims of the sandbank on the falling tide they will sit in the gutter. Casting Zman soft plastics, TT Switch Bladz, Zerek Flat Shads, Zerek Fish Traps and Storm soft vibes are all good methods to target fish.

At the time of writing my report it looks like the Southerly winds will be up Friday and Saturday before easing back to light/moderate conditions on Sunday making it the pick of the weekend to get out amongst the action. Just make sure you have the most up to date forecast before heading out on the water.
