Hi Everyone, I hope you’ve all had a great week.  Brett is away on annual leave for a couple of weeks no doubt chasing a few fish and I am sure he will have a story or two for you on his return as well as a photo or three for the brag board. It’s is nice to see some lighter winds and plenty of sunshine on the Gold Coast after all the average weather of the past couple of weeks. It means we can finally all stop complaining about the rain. With nicer conditions albeit hotter it was great to see plenty of anglers out having fun fishing.

We have had a lot of clients out enjoying the nice conditions and finding a feed of fish and sand crabs which are making up the bulk of the catch from our Houseboat Customers again this week in the main Broadwater and Jumpinpin Channels.

The mud crabs are starting to show up in better numbers and that will be due to the past rains however reports are they are on the small side and not keepers. It is a wise idea to invest in a crab measurer to make sure you are not keeping undersized crabs as the fines can be hefty. Whole mullet is best for your crab pots, remember to make sure your pots are correctly identified and that you have no more than 4 pots per person in your group.

Our Houseboat customers have caught some good sized Whiting and Bream off the sandbanks east of Cobby Passage this week, Western end of Tiger Mullet Channel, Jacobs Well and the Bedrooms are also worth a look.  Yabbies and Worms are great bait.

Reports of Flathead in Canipa Passage and Coomera River have come in with a nice feed caught on the Coomera by Cos Zantiotis. Big flathead have also been active on the Tweed, with Dave Gilbert catching and releasing this big flathead of 83cm on the Tweed with Brad Smith Fishing Charters.

Proud dad Rory Nicholson sent us this photo (see brad board) of his kids Jamie and Faith who were super chuffed with their catches on the Broadwater. It was the first Jewie for each of them.  A great little fisherman and fisherwoman in the making, I bet they can not wait for their next fishing expedition.

If you have a boat and can get off shore you may get almost the Snapper like Paul Wilshire (see brag board) pictured with a quality Snapper off the Gold Coast. The Snapper seem to be showing up in good numbers of late.

With the weather starting to warm up it is a great time to start chasing Mangrove Jack and Trevally.  We have seen a few Jacks swimming around the Gold Coast City Marina in the Coomera River this past week. Trolling hard body lures or live bait is also a great way to target a Jack.  Canals throughout the Broadwater and the Nerang River are good spots to have a look, also bridges, rock walls and fallen trees are all places they like to lie in wait.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any great catches or photos you would like to share, please email us and let us know how you went.

At the time of writing this report the forecast looks like we will see lighter winds coming from the S/SE as we head into the week-end and early in the week tending more to easterly by Monday evening but should remain light to moderate. We always recommend you have the latest weather report before you head out on the water.
