Bundaberg – weekly report

BUNDABERG OFFSHORE

For the larger boats wanting to get outside over the weekend the weather is looking pretty good. Besides a few showers, the wind is moderate. We have had good reports of red emperor, trout, parrotfish and plenty of sweetlip being caught. Also, plenty of sharks are about. Check the weather before heading out as things can change in a heartbeat. Bundaberg

BUNDABERG INSHORE

For the smaller boats wanting to get out and troll or cast a lure, finding that dirty water line off the coast is a good place to start. Predatory fish will patrol this area looking for an easy meal. Spanish mackerel, queenfish and large trevally are a few that may be caught. Bundaberg

BURNETT RIVER

With the amount of rain we’ve had over the past couple of weeks and the inflow of freshwater going into this system, it certainly has muddied up and may be a little tough to fish. Getting out around the mouth of the river where the dirty meets the clear is always a good area to troll a lure for predatory fish looking for bait being pushed out. Mud crabs are also on the move, so put the pots in before heading out for a fish. Bundaberg

KOLAN RIVER AND BAFFLE CREEEK

Both these river systems have had their fair share of rain but still are fishing well, with good reports of mangrove jack, good sized grunter and plenty of trevally being caught. The crabs are also on the move in these two systems, so put the pots in and get yourself a feed.

LAKE MONDURAN

The rain over the past two weeks has been great for the farmers, filling our lakes up and greening the grass. As the rain falls into Lake Monduran, the water will cool and make it a bit tougher to fish. Finding those warmer areas are key because this is where fish are more likely to feed. Slowing your retrieve down once you find fish will definitely put a few in the boat. B52, Classics Jackall 115 Squirrels, Molix 140 and Zerek Lively Mullets have been a few lures that have been working well over the past month.
