Crabs and fish aplenty on Gold Coast

Our houseboat customers had a great Labour Day Long Weekend on Gold Coast enjoying some nice weather and catching crabs and fish aplenty around the Broadwater and Jumpimpin. Let’s have a look at a few options for this weekend.

With the water and air temp starting to drop a bit targeting a big Jew in the Seaway will be worth a try with a few nice fish being caught lately. Schools of Tailor have been active around the Seaway and Pin Bar and also a few more Mullet moving around the area. Try the pipeline and Seaway Walls during the change of tide as Jew do like to feed around this time. The Pin Bar mouth will be worth a drift in the deeper channels.

Houseboat customers scored a good feed of both Mud and Sand crabs this week. Try targeting the edges of the main channels for Sand Crabs and up the estuary and creeks to find some quality Muddies. This time of year the Mud Crabs are quite full after feeding during the warmer months.

Whiting have been active in the rivers and throughout Jumpinpin and the Broadwater this week, some nice size fish up to 40cm by our customers. Use a long 6lb fluro carbon leader, small size 6 bait holder hook and either 4 or 5 ball sinker depending on water depth and tide. Try Tiger Mullet Channel Green and Gold Bank, Bedrooms, Canaipa Passage, Shoals at Jacobs Well, Coomera River North and South Arms, Paradise Point, Wave Break Island and the Nerang River. Worms and Yabbies are the best bait.

With Sunday’s forecast looking good for now heading out to the reefs for a bottom fishing will be worth a go, the 50 fathom line has produced some nice AJ’S, Pearlies, Kingfish, Snapper and mixed species. The 36, 24 and 18 fathom reefs will also produce a mixed bag of Snapper, Mauri Cod, Moses Perch, Smaller Kingfish, Cobia, Jew Fish and the odd Pearl Perch mainly on the 36’s. Float lining WA Pillies, Large Squid or live Bait’s will produce some quality fish.

Houseboat customers have been finding some good early season Bream in better numbers around Short Island, Tiger Mullet Channel, Logan River, Jacobs Well, Dux, The Coomera River, Paradise Point, Runaway Bay, Labrador Rock Walls and the Gold Coast Seaway. Mullet Fillet, Mullet Gut, White Pilchards, Prawns and Yabbies are great bait.
