Cracking fish on Gold Coast

We’ve had another fantastic week for School Holiday fishing on the Gold Coast with light winds and plenty of sunshine for all our Houseboat and Tackle shop customers. Let’s see what been biting this week.
The catch of the week goes to Kerra with her awesome Jewfish she caught fishing at Tipplers Passage on her Houseboat holiday, the Jew fell victim to a WA pilchard and put up a great fight, well done Kerra on your cracking fish. “Picture used for this week’s report”

Our Houseboat customers have been catching some great Jewfish so far this Winter, quality fish have been very active since May which is a great sign for the rest of the season. Jewfish have been taking a mixture of baits, Live Herring, Pike, Winter Whiting, Mullet and legal tailor are great live baits. WA Pilchards, Whole Large Squid and Mullet Fillet have been the standout dead baits that have produced fish for our customers. The fish have been caught in a mixture of water depths from shallow to deep and right throughout the Broadwater and Jumpinpin areas. Dux, Tipplers Passage, Tiger Mullet Channel, Five Ways, Short Island, Slipping Sands, Kalinga Bank, Pin Bar and Marks Rocks in the Logan have all produced fish so far this season.
Customers have been doing well on Flathead in the Broadwater and Jumpinpin this week.

The key is to find were the fish are and more than likely you will land multiple schooling fish within a small area. I have been taking my kids out during school holidays and doing well, kids enjoy casting and retrieving the plastics and the hook up is exciting. Keep an eye on the sounder for bait schools as we have been catching quite a few Flathead sitting under the bait. Casting soft plastics around river mouths on the run out tide, junctions in channels, feeder creeks and the edges and rock walls should produce fish. Some good spots to look are the Coomera River, Wave Break Island, Crab Island Middle Bank, Brown Island, The Never Fails, Jacobs Well, Tiger Mullet Channel, Canapia Passage, Kalinga Bank and the Logan River. Just mix up your methods depending on tide and water depth, soft plastics, vibes, blades and baits will all work.

The kids have been doing well over school holidays catching plenty of Bream on the Gold Coast. It has been a great season so far with good numbers of Bream around giving the kids a great chance of landing a fish and putting a smile on their faces. The best spots have been Crusoe Island, Tiger Mullet Channel, Canaipa Passage, Eden Island, Short Island and Whalleys Gutter if you have a boat. Bream like to hang around structure which make targeting them land based with the kids a great and easy option. Land based spots like Labrador foreshore, Lands End Biggera Waters, Paradise Point, Hope Island, Jacobs Well, Coomera River, Marine Stadium and Nerang River Budds Beach are good options.

Having a look offshore will be a great option this weekend as the forecast is looking good at this stage. A good mixture of fish has been showing on the 50, 36, 24 and 18 fathom reefs. Amber Jack, Samson, Pearl Perch, Tusk Fish, Snapper, Cobia, Moses Perch, Trag and Jewfish will be worth targeting depending on the depth of water you decide to fish. Just keep an eye on the larger full moon tide Sunday on the run out tide at the Seaway, at this stage the swell looks ok but double check conditions before heading out
Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any reports please let us know how you went.

At the time of writing my report the forecast is looking good with small swell over the weekend and light to moderate S/SW winds before shifting light S/SE by Sunday. Try and get out before Wednesday next week and the wind and swell will increase. Just make sure you have the most up to date forecast before heading out on the water.
If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au Good luck with the Fishing. Brett
