Great winter fishing on Gold Coast

It’s been another great winter week on the Gold Coast with good weather and Fishing for those lucky enough to get out and try your luck.  Let’s have a look at some options for the weekend.

Good bait schools have moved into the Jumpinpin and Broadwater area the past couple of weeks, so far Tailor fishing has been a bit inconsistent this season depending on where you fish but where there’s bait you will eventually find fish.  Reports of Tailor have been coming in but you have to really hunt around to find good numbers to target.  Best to target the Pin Bar and Gold Coast Seaway on the last couple of hours of the run in tide, keep an eye out for birds actively feeding or surface action of fish feeding on bait.

It’s worth hitting the surf gutters and the pumping jetty whilst the swell is small to try your luck at a Tailor, you will also have a good change and snagging a Jew Fish or you can Target Tarwine and Bream at night.

Houseboat Customers have reported good catches of Bream this week, Jumpinpin is still producing quality catches around Whalleys Gutter, Crusoe Island, Short Island, Cobby Passage, Slipping Sands, Eden Island, Tiger Mullet Channel, Dux, and Cabbage Tree Point.  The Logan River, Coomera River, Wave Break Island, Gold Coast Seaway and the Nerang River are also fishing well.  Night fishing will normally produce the bigger fish but plenty is on offer to keep the kids busy during the day.  Good baits to try are Mullet Gut, Mullet Fillet, Prawns, White Pilchards, Beach Worms, WA Pilchard pieces and Yabbies.

Flathead have been quite active this week hitting soft plastics, vibes, blades and baits.  Try Banks North of Wave Break Island, Aldershots, Coomera River, Neverfail Islands, Tipplers Passage, Curtis, Bedrooms, Green Bank, through Tiger Mullet Channel, Kalinga Bank, Crusoe Island, Canaipa Passage, Logan River and Jacobs Well.

Plenty of bait has moved into the close Reef’s 24 to 18 fathom mark this week.  A few school Mackerel have even been around in the cleaner water, the bait should attract some big Cobia which should hang around during the winter months.  A mixed bag of Snapper, Moses, Jew Fish, Trag, Cobia, Tusk have made up the main catches this week.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any reports please let us know how you went.

Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/

At the time of writing my report the forecast is looking ok with light to moderate N/NW winds on Friday & Saturday before swinging light S/SE direction on Sunday.  At this stage Sunday looks like the best day to get out on the water and try your luck.  Just make sure you have the most up to date forecast before heading out on the water.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au    Good luck with the Fishing.  Brett
