Houseboat customers having fun and catching fish

We had a good Easter Weekend on the Gold Coast with plenty of Houseboats and customers on the water having fun. The pattern of showers didn’t seem to dampen the spirit of everyone getting outdoors and into some fishing action. Unfortunately the wind has picked up during the week making conditions a bit tough.

With School Holidays underway now is a good time to get the kids out of the house and go fishing.  The idea is to keep it simple and get the kids involved as much as possible.

You don’t need expensive rods and reels, a basic cheap kid’s combo we stock here at Coomera Bait & Tackle will work fine.  It doesn’t  matter how big or small the fish is they catch it’s all about fun.  Bream, Whiting and Flathead can be caught from the shore or in a boat.  Some good land based spots to try are Paradise Point, Runaway Bay, Hope Island, Coomera River Bridge, Marine Stadium, Grand Hotel Jetty, Jacobs Well, Labrador and Nerang River.  A packet of Prawns, White Pilchards, Worms or Yabbies will work well. Drop in and we can help set up the rods and give you all the advice you need to get out catching fish.

With a bit of extra fresh water in the system targeting a Jew Fish in the Gold Coast Seaway or the Jumpinpin Bar will be a great option. Try fishing the tide changes on either high or low, best fishing will be an hour each side when the run slows and the Jew are in feed mode. Live baits like Mullet, Pike, Herring and legal Tailor will be irresistible to a hungry Jew Fish. Large soft vibes like Zerek Fish Traps or Soft Plastics like Zman Streakz on ¾ to ounce jig heads have been a favourite lure of choice.

Houseboat customers have made the most of the fresh water flush out this week scoring some nice Mud Crabs and enjoying a tasty feed.  Some good spots to set the pots are The Never Fails Islands, Tipplers Passage, Brown Island, The Coomera River, Pimpama River, Jacobs Well, Tiger Mullet Channel, Canaipa Passage and the Logan River.  Whole mullet has been the bait of choice.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any reports please let us know how you went.

Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/

At the time of writing my report the forecast looks like we will see Moderate SE winds on Friday and Saturday before easy making Sunday the pick of the days to hit the water for a fish. Just make sure your up to date with restrictions and boat ramp closures on the Gold Coast during the Commonwealth Games period.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au    Good luck with the Fishing.  Brett
