It was nice to see the weather was pretty good over the long weekend on the Gold Coast before the South Easterly winds moved in for the start of the week. A big swell offshore has made inshore fishing in the Broadwater, Jumpinpin and rivers the best option for chasing a feed.
Prawns were fairly thick leading up to and over the Australia Day long weekend which was great news for everyone putting in the effort to catch a feed. They are fairly well spread out for now so searching a few different areas will be required. Try looking at The Powerlines, Rocky Point, Logan River, Russell Island, Macleay Island, Cabbage Tree Point and Jacobs Well.
A top pocket cast net is the best option, as the net sinks the prawns are pushed in to a catch pocket in the top of the net, I recommend if you feel prawns in the net you need to pull on the rope a few times and that will make the prawns head into the top pocket. This makes emptying the prawns from the net an easy task then you can go straight back into casting at the school of prawns. We do have a few options of nets in stock and also have some of the new Pro Throw cast nets arriving soon.

With the wind kicked in this week our customers have been hitting the Pin, Broadwater and rivers chasing a feed of Whiting for great inshore fishing action. Yabbies will work well around the Pin and Broadwater, fishing the top of the Sandbanks on the rising tide has been productive with some good sized Whiting being caught along with the odd Flathead. Worms are a better option of bait in the rivers, the Logan, Coomera, Pimpama and Nerang are all producing a nice feed. Using light gear is a must, a long 6lb trace around a metre, good sized sinker 4 to 5 ball and a small size 6 bait holder hook is the preferred rig.
Customers have scored a good feed of Mud Crabs this week, with some rain on the forecast this weekend will be a good time to get the pots in and chase a few. Jumpinpin has crabbed well during the week, Tiger Mullet, Whalleys Gutter, Eden Island and joining feeder creeks have produced the goods. Also have a look around Canaipa Passage and the Logan River. Down the Southern end the Coomera River, Pimpama River, The Never Fails and Brown Island are worth a go.

At the time of writing my report the forecast looks like it is set on repeat for the next week with moderate SE winds on the way until late next week. Just make sure you have the most up to date weather forecast before heading out on the water.
