Hi Everyone, hope you’ve all had a nice week, the start of September has seen a bit more of some much needed rain this week on the Gold Coast. The weekend will be a great time to go for a fish and see what’s been flushed out of the system.

With the Gold Coast Sport Fish Clubs Flathead Classic Comp fast approaching all the teams have been spending plenty of time pre fishing to try to find the best spots to catch Flathead. My mate Michael Stewart was out fishing last Sunday and while flicking soft plastics near the Pin he hooked a monster Threadfin Salmon (see photo in the report) which put up an awesome fight on light gear giving him the run around though crab pots and boats. His mates did a great job driving the boat and they finally landed the prize fish. We are seeing more of these trophy fish showing up around the Jumpinpin area the last couple of years, I think they have mainly be coming out of the Logan River in search of bait fish and prawns. From reports Flathead have been a bit more spread out again this week with a few nice fish being caught around the Jumpinpin, Broadwater and Rivers. Coomera Bait and Tackle customers have been doing well fishing both the North and South arms of the Coomera River. Spots to look around the Pin are, Cabbage Tree Point, Jacobs Well, Eden Island, Canaipa Passage, Kalinga Bank and Tiger Mullet Channel. In the Broadwater try Tipplers Passage, Aldershots Eastern side, Currigee and Wave Break Island. Working Soft Plastics, Soft Vibes, Metal Blades and trolling Hard Body Lures depending on the weed situation are the main way to temp a fish.

Scott Fleming from Wilson Fishing was back out chasing Jewfish in the Pin Bar last weekend (see photo in the report) and he scored some nice Jew using the Zerek Fish Trap vibes worked around bait schools as the tide slowed down. He reported some Mack Tuna were also hitting lures, pound for pound they are great fun and put up a fantastic fight. After the rain this week it will be worth having a go as a bit more bait should have been flushed out of the estuaries. Same goes with the Gold Coast Seaway area which will be a great spot to try your luck around the pipe line, I have heard there has been the odd Shark around the Seaway, just try to get your fish in quick.

Coomera Houseboat Holidays customers managed a nice feed of Bream from the Coomera River, Dux, Whalleys Gutter, Tiger Mullet Channel, Jacobs Well, Short Island, Slipping Sands, Paradise Point and Wave Break Island. Yabbies, Worms, Prawns, White Pilchards and Mullet Fillet are good bait to try your luck.

Clint form Brad Smith Fishing Charters has been scoring some nice Flathead and Whiting fishing up the Nerang River for his customers. Brad has been fishing the top end of the Tweed River landing some quality Jewfish, Flathead and the odd Bass close to the fresh water section.

I’d recommend to get the Crab pots in after the rain this week, hopefully it would have stirred up the Mud Crabs. This time of year the crabs are usually in good condition and provide a great feed.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any great catches or photos you would like to share, please email us and let us know how you went.

Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/

At the time of writing my report the forecast looks like we will see the return of the dreaded Northerly wind Friday. Saturday will see Northerly winds with the chance of a storm. Wind will tend Southerly on Sunday and increase in strength as the day goes on. I always recommend you have the latest weather report before you head out on the water.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au    Good luck with the Fishing.  Brett
