Hi Everyone, it’s awesome to see the great weather continue on the Gold Coast with fine conditions for fishing both offshore and inshore on offer. Our Coomera Houseboat customers have been having a great time finding plenty of fish and crabs in the Broadwater and Jumpinpin. Let’s have a look at a few good fishing options.
It’s been great to see our Coomera Houseboat Holiday customers get such good winter weather conditions making exploring and fishing on the Gold Coast a pleasure. Greg, his daughter Ainslie and family did very well during the week coming up trumps with a fantastic feed of winter Mud Crabs and landing plenty of quality Flathead (see photos in report) around the Jumpinpin area. Greg reported Flathead in good numbers around the top end of Tipplers Passage, Never Fail Islands, Tipplers Island, Jacobs Well and Pandanus Island. He used a few different methods like trolling hard body lures on the edges of weed banks, working metal and soft vibes on the drop offs and throwing soft plastics around. Flathead are around in good numbers so far this year and respond well to the cooler conditions. The trick is if you can find a few fish in the 40 to 50cm size range just keep on working the area and I’m sure you will find the big one they are hanging around. Just remember the rules for Flathead minimum size is 40cm and maximum size is 75cm with most anglers choosing to release fish over 60cm to help with breeding.
Schools of Tailor have been harassing bait schools in the main channels running off the Gold Coast Seaway and Jumpinpin this week with the early dawn bite or dusk bite producing plenty of action on surface lures and metal slugs.
Mud crabs are still on offer during the winter months on the Gold Coast, you may not get as many as summer time but crabs caught during the winter are usually in good condition and full of meat. Coomera Bait & Tackle customers have managed a good feed lately putting the pots in while going fishing. The Coomera River has been worth a go with customers scoring a feed. Other spots that have produced are Dux, The Never Fail Islands, Cabbage Tree Point, Canaipa Passage and Kouryabba.
With nice weather conditions continuing the offshore fishing has been good with customers consistently catching some great feeds of big Snapper. Scott Kempton landed a solid Snapper when fishing with his mate Paul last weekend (see photo in report). The Gold Coast reefs from 18 to 36 fathoms have been producing some good mixed bags of fish including Snapper, Moses, Tusk Fish, Cobia, School Mackerel, Trag Jew, Pearl Perch and plenty of big Jew Fish. Hope you get out for a fish whilst the weather is good.
Brad Smith Fishing Charters have also been doing well with Brad producing some quality Whiting, Jew Fish and Flathead for his clients mainly fishing the Tweed River this week.
Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any great catches or photos you would like to share, please email us and let us know how you went.
