Looking into the weekend’s forecast for Bundaberg, it’s not looking too bad for a run offshore and with perfect tides the fishing should be great, but please make sure you are up to date with the latest weather forecasts before heading out as things can change at any time.
If the conditions stay good there will be plenty of fish caught, sweetlip, parrot, coral trout and maybe some big red emperor. At this time of the year there is also plenty of big cobia and spanish mackerel about so as always it’s worth floating out a bait whilst reef fishing. Some of the inshore reefs have produced some great fishing this week with some quality grunter, sweetlip and even a few school and spanish mackerel.
A lot of the rivers and creeks are fishing well, with both the Baffle and Kolan Rivers producing some quality mangrove jacks and a few barra. There is also a few grunter and bream about the main channels around the river mouths.
The Burnett River still continues to produce some quality fishing. Most of the sand bars are holding good numbers of whiting, flathead and sickle fish. The last of the run-out tide using yabbies as bait seems to be the go. Some of the rocky areas are holding some grunter and mangrove jacks and an odd barra. There are plenty of mud crabs and prawns about to keep you entertained as well.
The Elliott River is producing plenty of whiting and dart around the mouth and this has been great fun for the kids. The upper reaches of the Elliott has seen numerous fish caught, with a few cod and jacks for anglers fishing the run-out tide. Rumour has it there are plenty of prawns in the Elliott.
Lake Gregory has produced a few bass, with most being caught on chatterbait lures fished around the weed beds. Monduran produced a few more barra; most have been in the 50 to 70cm size range with most of the barra having been caught on small diving lures or 4” paddle tail soft plastics.
