Fishery Monitoring measuring tailor.

Successful tail surveys on K’gari (Fraser Island)

Another successful tailor survey season for our monitoring team on K’gari (Fraser Island) this year!

Our team sampled 483 catches and measured 4881 fish. 1227 fish skeletons were donated, allowing us to collect 370 otoliths (fish ear bones). These donations help us keep a close eye on tailor stocks and ensure their sustainability.

Find out how we process otoliths to estimate fish age in our Instagram stories, where we’ll be sharing more of the process every Thursday!

A big thank you to all fishers who donated their tailor frames or let us measure their fish. 🐟📏
